A fourth consecutive victory, which confirms his image as leader at Le Mans
Since 2018, the Japanese car manufacturer has triumphed on the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe. In 2021, in addition to securing a fourth consecutive victory, Toyota will become the first manufacturer to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Hypercar category, with its GR010 Hybrid No. 7 and No. 8.
Indeed, with impressive regularity, these two Toyota cars largely dominated the competition. Halfway through the race, they were already three laps ahead of their competitors, which allowed them to cross the finish line without any anxiety, despite some technical problems. Toyotas #7 and #8 were notably affected by a fuel supply problem. Fortunately, the engineers were able to find solutions, but this incident is reminiscent of the cruel stroke of fate that occurred 5 years earlier...
A Nightmarish Twist at the End of the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans
Sunday, June 19, 2016 is a date that Toyota would probably like to erase. And for good reason, during this 84th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the manufacturer will suffer a terrible disappointment. In the lead with only two laps to go, the Toyota team is preparing to celebrate this historic victory, when suddenly, the Toyota n°5 slows down and stops on the circuit, victim of a major mechanical problem. A few minutes from the finish, it is therefore the Porsche n°2 that emerges victorious from this race.
Let's hope for the Toyota team that they don't have to relive this terrible scenario this weekend, during the 90th edition.
